As many of you may have seen on our social media, our lead trainer, Kieron, has been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
FND is a condition where neurological symptoms arise from a problem with how the brain and nervous system function, rather than from any structural damage. It can affect movement, speech, memory, and more, often unpredictably and severely.
Imagine one moment you're as fit as you’ve ever been, climbing mountains and completing extreme fitness challenges to being confined to a sofa, watching your world shrink with each passing day. That’s the reality Kieron faces right now.
A new mobility scooter could restore some of the independence, dignity, and freedom he's lost. It would allow him to enjoy the outdoors again with his family, in the New Forest, across the Purbecks, or even just around the block.
To call this "life-saving" doesn’t fully capture the impact. Watching his condition worsen due to lack of mobility is heartbreaking for everyone who knows and loves him.
Kieron, a proud veteran, is now humbly asking for your support to help fund this essential piece of equipment.
Kieron’s symptoms include:
Including functional and absent seizures
He sometimes relies on a walking stick or wheelchair
Such as trouble remembering names, places, people, or events
Including sudden onset of stuttering or trouble speaking
These symptoms can shift hour by hour and day by day, making everyday life incredibly difficult.
Kieron has always been a beacon of strength and support. He's raised over £30,000 for various charities, helped more than 100 individuals on their rehabilitation and fitness journeys, and was honoured with the prestigious Local Hero Award. His vision helped to elevate JK House into a nationally recognised rehabilitation centre, winning multiple business accolades and transforming countless lives. The lives he's changed are a testament to his dedication and hard work.
From Kieron and all at JK House Training Centre, gratitude flows from the depths of our hearts to all those who have stood beside us, campaigning our cause and embracing our vision. To our steadfast supporters, whose unwavering commitment mirrors our own, we extend our sincerest appreciation. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who share our commitment to improving the lives of stroke survivors and individuals with brain injuries. Your generosity and compassion inspire us to continue our mission with passion and purpose.
If you have any questions before deciding to support Kieron's journey or contribute to his mobility fundraiser, below are some commonly asked questions that may provide the answers you're looking for:
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a condition where the brain struggles to send and receive signals properly, leading to a wide range of symptoms such as seizures, movement difficulties, and speech or memory issues. It is not caused by structural damage to the brain but rather by how the brain and nervous system function.
